Creating an Animal Rescue prototype using Adobe XD.
> > THE PROBLEM
Millions of animals are currently in shelters and foster homes around the world awaiting adoption. The SSPCA for example respond to over 140 reports of animals in need every day. In 2019 alone the RSPCA in England and Wales took in 10,564 dogs, 29,432 cats and managed to find 39,178 animals new homes but there’s still a lot that could be done. The process for adoption can often be intimidating and complicated which may put people off.

Rescue pets make great pets! ‘Animal Rescue’ is created with the hope of making the process of adopting rescue animals easy by matching you with the perfect companion. By signing up and answering just a few short questions the app would filter your results. The app is designed to simplify the process of making the initial contact with the shelter or foster home without making the process irresponsible or damaging and avoiding a bad match. It aims to collate data from a multitude of sources into one, easy to navigate and filter solution and then link the user with the shelter to take the adoption process further.

Here I have created the initial flow and prototype for testing with users to see if this could be a viable project for helping more rescue animals find a ‘forever home’ with a view to reiterating and refining.

There are still lots of possibilities for filtering the search criteria with the possibility of the questionnaire recommending your animal match rather than selecting. I also have more ideas for possible features such as taking a picture of the animal or breed you are looking for, tracking a walk to map the sort of exercise you might take and sharing to social media.
